Important Updates
The Settlement received final approval from the Court on January 13, 2020. All appeals have been resolved, and the Settlement is now effective.
Settlement benefits for eligible out-of-pocket losses and time spent began issuing in mid-December 2022.
Extended Claims Period claims are under review. Claimants will be contacted if additional information is required.
The deadline to file an Extended Claims Period claim for Out-of-Pocket Losses or Time Spent between January 23, 2020, and January 22, 2024, passed on January 22, 2024.
Remaining funds will be distributed pro rata to eligible claimants through electronic pre-paid cards as specified in the Settlement Agreement.
No deadline currently applies to information verification.
Overview of the Incident
In September 2017, Equifax announced a data security incident impacting approximately 147 million individuals. A federal court approved a class action settlement resolving claims related to the incident. Equifax denied any wrongdoing, and no judgment or finding of wrongdoing was made.
Free Identity Restoration Services
Eligible individuals are entitled to at least seven (7) years of free assisted identity restoration services to help remediate the effects of identity theft and fraud. Services are available for seven years following the Settlement Effective Date (January 11, 2022).
Additional Settlement Information
Pro rata distributions of remaining funds continue for eligible claimants. Official documentation and verification tools are available to review claim status and settlement progress.
